Beneath are some of the jewellery care tips
- Remember to spray your perfume first and then put on your jewellery.
- Silver jewellery can be prevented from tarnish simply by wearing it more often
- Pearls and opals tend to draw moisture from the air, so storing your opal and pearl jewellery in a dry area, such as a safe deposit box, can sometimes do more harm than good.
- Proper jewellery storage is often not taken sincerely. Jewellery should never be tossed into a drawer or on a dresser table− that’s equal in asking for scratches and damaged gems.
- Most jewellery pieces come in a box from the store, which is a perfect place to keep them. Silver, for example, should be kept in an anti-tarnish bag or cloth.
- Most coloured gems can be cleaned with warm water, mild dish soap (no detergents), harsh chemicals and a soft brush. A pulsed-water dental cleaning appliance and a soft, lint-free cloth can also be used.
- When tarnishes, silver jewellery can e cleansed with a damp cloth dipped in warm water.
- Excessive heat and sudden temperature changes might fracture some gems. Heat can easily remove the natural moisture. Pearls, for instance, can dry out, crack and discolor. Over time, and in excess exposure to heat, can also fade or damage some gemstones, such as amethyst, kunzite, topaz and shell cameos.
- Put jewellery on after applying makeup. Cosmetics, hairspray, perfumes, lotion, moisturiser and body spray can contain chemicals that can often damage jewellery. Putting jewellery on after applying these will limit exposure to jewellery and any potential damage.
